Environment
Protecting the environment is one of the five pillars of the Lions Clubs commitment to its primary motto of “We Serve”. In keeping with this, Douglas & District Lions collaborates with local schools to assist with the many projects which their students undertake to protect and improve the environment and
improve biodiversity in their local communities. One such project was that undertaken by the transition year students from Douglas Community School in producing Bird Nest Boxes to a high professional standard. These were then delivered to members of the public and local community centers in the surrounding area.
Douglas & District Lions has recently completed a major Sustainable Energy project in the form of a Retrofit in Lion House of its electricity and heating facilities. Lion House, Douglas is an apartment building located off Church
Road, Douglas that houses 18 residents in individual apartments. These were built in the early 1990's. The retrofit required the replacement of all windows and doors and the installation of heat pumps and PV panels throughout the
building. This project future proofs these buildings for many years to come as well as providing cosy, warm and energy efficient apartments for our residents.
